The higher elevations of the Appalachian Mountains are now beginning to show high color in West Virginia, western Maryland and portions of western Virginia. In northern West Virginia (just west of the eastern panhandle), peak foliage can be found in the higher elevations. The areas surrounding peak and high color are in moderate color and the eastern portion of the region is still in the low color category.
