Foliage Report #13

October 16, 2002

Some leaf-peeping opportunities can be had in the mountains of western Maryland, northeastern and eastern West Virginia. High color (61 to 80 percent) has been reported in many of these areas, with peak conditions in parts of western Maryland. Elsewhere in the region, moderate color (31 to 60 percent) reigns in the higher elevations with low color (11 to 30 percent) in the lower-lying locations.

Leaf drop in most of the region is primarily low, with some areas having very low drop and some moderate leaf drop. The moderate levels are found in the higher elevations where color change is in the moderate to high range. There are still plenty of leaves to enjoy!
