As the summer draws to a close, and as the days get shorter, the eagerly
anticipated fall foliage season begins. The spring and summer of 2001
featured slightly below normal precipitation in this region, however,
not enough to impact the foliage season. This year marks the first year
of coverage for the states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
The Foliage Network looks forward to expanding its coverage to provide
even more information for travelers and leaf-peepers. At this early stage,
only very low color has been reported in portions of the Appalachian Mountains.
Leaf drop is very low to non-existent,
which is to be expected so early in the season. This information was provided
by Marek D. Rzonca, The Foliage Network. The next report will be released
Saturday, September 8, 2001.
